Restored Mill in Flanders

Ten years ago, Carlo and Anita bought an old flour mill in the Flemish countryside and turned it into both their home and a large showroom for the articles they sell in their beautiful shop, Arcobaleno. If you'd like to see a previous post where I featured this shop just go here.

Christmas Inspired Home

Today we are visiting a lovely stone house in Spain decorated for Christmas in greens, whites and silvers. Enjoy!


Two Christmas trees flank the entrance door.


Now this is a lovely idea, an old bike with a basket painted red and just leaning against the wall as a Christmas decoration.

It's not that I'm patronizing, but as I'm showing this picture I feel a disclaimer necessary: as much as I love the candles leading the way upstairs, it's a fire hazard and shouldn't be copied. If you can't resist the idea then at least put them in a hurricane or lantern. If there are children or pets around simply don't. There are many other ways you can decorate your stairs!

French Style Cottage in California

Located in a small town in Sonoma country, from the outside this house looks like a classical American cottage. But once you step in you are transported straight to Provence. Interior designers, mother and daughter team, Myra Hoefer and Gina Gattuso, gave it a South of France look but with a California twist too. When you walk in, you see straight through to the back of the property with its old citrus trees, persimmon trees, a terrace and an arbor with wisteria.



Myra says: "We didn't go crazy with color on the furniture, so we mostly brought color in with pillows. You can be bolder with a pillow than with furniture." In the living room colour and warmth are added with the bright pillows and Tibetan wool rugs with flowers.


Louis XVI chairs in the living room upholstered in raffia with natural muslin cushions to give them a casual look.


Reading nook in the corner of the living room by the fireplace.


Four different colour of stripes were used for the dining room chair slipcovers. The fabric is thick Indian cotton. White painted wooden chandelier.


Feminine master bedroom with pink silk and a classic Louis XVI bed, and a decoupage chest of drawers.

Flea Market House in Normandie

Good morning, dears! Hope you are having a relaxing weekend.
Christelle and hubby David, discovered this old farmhouse nestled in the heart of a pretty village in the Haute-Normandie, France. She is passionate about flea market finds and has her own shop full of French inspired objects. Her home reflects this style in every single room. Hope you enjoy today's tour!

Interior Designer Carolyn Espley-Miller

Designer Carolyn Espley-Miller decorated her Carpinteria, California, beach house she shares with her husband and two sons, with white walls, slipcovered seating, and antiques to create a tranquil and serene space. Almost all the rooms and all the hallways are Benjamin Moore's White Heron, a nice, soft white, not glaring, not too bright. The kitchen and master bath are a seafoam color, Silver Sage by Restoration Hardware.


A trestle-leg desk is positioned in front of French doors in the office the designer shares with her husband.


A large mirror over a long French serving table gives the dining area the feel of a café in Paris. Sea grass rug and slatted chair complete the look.


In the entry, a well-worn Gustavian bench and blue and white striped rug.


Ocean breezes waft in through the entry's screen door.


Espley-Miller's living room has an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean, a massive stone fireplace, and big, comfortable sofas and chairs slipcovered in white cotton denim. A huge antique dhurrie defines the seating area.


In the kitchen, a light with a Victorian wicker shade hangs above a table made of antique corbels topped with glass.


Just about everything in the kitchen got a coat of white, including the hood. The light fixture is trimmed with antique fabric.


A distressed cabinet from a milk factory and the shutters against the wall make a statement in this corner.

A black banister and black chandelier help ground the bright, airy, open upstairs hall landing.

In the upstairs hall, skipping ropes with brightly colored handles are piled under a French poster.


Stripes of red tile lend definition to the shower walls and tub surround in a boy's bathroom.


Striped bedding and a striped rug echo the lines of wooden French blinds in the bedroom of one of Espley-Miller's two sons.


The master bath opens to an oceanside deck. "It's very white and very simple," Espley-Miller says. "I wanted nothing to detract from the incredible view and the light."


Barn doors with their original seafoam color for the headboard in the master bedroom.


Shells fringe a custom shade on a lamp in the master bedroom.


The bedroom's mantel is a wooden French window frame. A framed grid of shells on fishing wire "sparkles and catches the light from windows and the fireplace," Espley-Miller says.


The patio fire pit takes the chill off after sunset.
